“I think it is safe to say that Big Rock Brewery makes Calgary’s favorite beer. Since the start, its customers have been its biggest promoters. Long before it became known as crowdsourcing, Big Rock thought up creative ways to involve those promoters in its brand.”

Summertime means barbeques, camping and deck parties - where a variety of beers is always appreciated.
To promote the Big Rock 15 Can Variety Pack FM96 asked their listeners to submit their best 30 second commercial scripts for a chance to win a Big Rock Party.
The Top 5 ads were professionally produced in a one-on-one session with Baker the Freeloader Guy! To hear the top five submissions in the FM96 radio contest CLICK HERE.
Congratulations to Chris Laidlow for his “We Live for Summer” ad!

Over the past 16 years the Eddies event has helped launch acting, directing and graphic design careers all across our great country and beyond. (While supporting organizations like One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre, Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter and EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts.)
This year, for the first time ever, we awarded one top Student winner in each of the categories: video and print. Not only did these winners bank a few extra dollars but they helped raise money for their respective schools.

Every year we like to sit back and watch the chaos as Eddies producers scramble to get their entries in.
Yesterday was that day… April 1- the last day to submit entries.
Picture it: A peaceful brewery setting. It’s a sunny morning. The front gates are opened and we unlock the front doors.
It begins.
One of our past winners shows up (not only to submit but to help create some efficiencies) and he sets up shop on our couch in the reception area. He puts the final touches on his print ad, drops his envelope off to our receptionist (who has been watching him curiously all morning) and then he is off.
A consistent flow of droopy eyed producers - who all admit to days of sleep deprivation – stop by to deliver their creation in person.
One of these producers had a lovely hat.
We said, “Your shirt matches your hat really well.”
He said, “ Ya, it matched yesterday - and the day before as well.” He dropped his entry and headed home for a change of clothes and a sleep.
As the day progressed we were intrigued by a group of six that drove all the way from Edmonton (to the brewery) to finish their submission - in their car. As they put the finishing touches on it they kept coming into the reception area to make sure they still had time. Then, as the clock struck 4:30, they ran it in and went on their way.
We thought we had all submissions in hand when….. yes, another entry showed up. There was no doubt that this man was a bit panicky. But he made it. That’s what counts.
Now for the fun part… we get to watch them all.
Stay tuned.
