Ed McNally, Founder and CEO of Big Rock Brewery, is a native Albertan who grew up in Lethbridge. Growing up in Southern Alberta, he was exposed to the legacy of Sick’s Brewery. (Sick’s Brewery was founded in Lethbridge and grew to a company with five breweries in Western Canada and four in the Pacific Northwest.)

As a former lawyer, a rancher and farmer Ed believed that Canada needed a brewery that would provide consumers with real beer. To Ed a “real” beer had to be brewed according to European tradition, contain no additives, no preservatives and it could not be pasteurized.

His formula for success was a combination of excellent people, quality ingredients and a commitment to brewing distinct, all natural craft beers.

Today the company is still guided by Ed’s touchstone belief: “To create a masterpiece, no compromise may be tolerated.”
